The Story Behind This Piece

Recently, my husband and I shared an answered prayer.

After 3 and a half years of struggling with infertility, the Lord blessed us with a little miracle. Even now, it still feels surreal - the kind of joy that brings tears without warning, the kind you’ve prayed for over and over again.

But this piece was created before we knew that joy.

In that season of waiting, I spent countless days at doctor’s appointments, adjusting my routines, and quietly carrying both hope and heartache. It was during that time that I was invited to illustrate a series on motherhood.

I remember hesitating. Motherhood was something I longed for deeply, yet it felt just out of reach. A small voice in me wondered if I was the right person for the work.

But then I thought of the mothers around me - women in my church, in my life - and how meaningful it would be to create something that reflected Christ’s love for them. And so, I said yes.

This “Mother & Child” piece was born in that space - a place of longing, faith, and surrender.

Created as a block print, each piece carries the marks of the process: carved, inked, and pressed by hand. Printmaking is a labor of love, and its raw, imperfect textures reflect the depth and tenderness behind the work.

Looking back now, I can see that this piece was not only for others - it was for me too.

My hope is that this print becomes a small but meaningful way to honor, encourage, and celebrate the beauty of motherhood, in all its forms, and to remind someone that they are seen, loved, and held in God’s care.
