Most Christians struggle finding art that resonates with the Christian worldview. At Patsy Shaw Studio, I create art that is rooted in Biblical truth so Christians can enjoy beautiful artwork that leads to more joy in God.

ABOUT PATSY

PatsyHeadshot

I am an artist living in the suburbs of Philadelphia, PA. When I am not working my day job, you can find me in my studio painting away in joy for God’s glory.

What started as a hobby slowly morphed into an art practice.

My heart has always been drawn to art and creativity, but I have only been painting regularly since 2018. Like a lot of people, I spend SO much time in front of a screen for work, and so I wanted to spend my leisure hours creating with my hands.

I began to document my progress on Instagram and in the process grew both as an artist and as a Christian as I learned to verbalize the gospel and share what God was teaching me.

…because if I was being completely honest, I did not like talking about God.

God helped me overcome this fear as I started to share what He was teaching me in both art and words. And slowly, as I painted and wrote, my fears melted away to give way for joy.

Sharing on Instagram taught me to verbalize my thoughts about God. It gave me words I didn’t have before, so they are now no longer foreign or strange to my mouth but a joy to proclaim.

I know that the internet can be a dark and scary place. It is my hope and prayer that my art, words, and content, will leave you encouraged, uplifted, and built up.

HISTORY

I spent the first 18 years of my life growing up in Manila, Philippines. I come from a family of artists (dad’s side) and entrepreneurs (mom’s side). Growing up my parents would always take us to musicals, plays, theaters, and museums. But they would also take us to work and show us the hard earned family businesses that were built from the ground up. In my immediate family, however, medicine was the path and the prospect of pursuing anything else seemed out of reach.

I went to the USA and graduated from Penn State in 2016 with degrees in Health Policy and Administration and Psychology. It was at Penn State where I was saved by grace and it was also where I met my husband, Walter, through our college church. Walter and I got married in 2018 at the age of 24 and have been living in the suburbs of Philadelphia ever since.

After Walter and I got married, I took a small community watercolor art class. It was after taking that class that I told myself that I would start painting every single day. That was how @shawmuchart on Instagram was born.

And so I started painting. Writing in calligraphy. Developing cyanotypes. Metalsmithing jewelry. Blockprinting pieces. Always exploring new mediums or finding new art classes nearby.

When God calls us to be artists, we do not abandon that calling. God’s gifts are never meant to be hidden or suppressed. Instead, God calls us to use it for His glory.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
- Matthew 5:14-16

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
